Immediate Action by Property Owners needed-Ditch Mowing Maintenance 7/10/2026
Notice-Town of Lake Mills
Ditch mowing to be completed in the Shorewood Hills Subdivision area
Friday, July 10, 2026, weather permitting.
This notice is to inform property owners in the greater Shorewood Hills Subdivision area that ditch mowing will be completed by the Town’s contracted services. Under Wis. Stat. § 66.1037(1), towns have the authority to remove, cut, or trim any tree, shrub, or other vegetation (within the road right of way) in order to provide safety to highway users.
In order to do this, property owners are asked to remove objects from the road right of ways (ROW) including decorations, yard signs, marker stakes and reflectors, or other personal property.
Wis. Stat. § 86.021 prohibits a person from plowing, cultivating or doing work within the right of-way that affects drainage, leading to a violation. The statute also makes them liable for any damages to the right-of-way.
Existing plantings done by property owners within the ROW are not exempt from this ditch mowing. We understand many have planted flowers etc. in the ROW, and our contractor will make best efforts to avoid plantings that do not pose a safety issue for highway users.
Marker stakes ( as seen in the photo with rebar), yard signs and other objects hindering the maintenance effort may be damaged if not removed by the day of maintenance; and we ask that you DO NOT replace those items if they have been removed to help with all future ROW maintenance and for safety.
For any questions on this matter please contact the Town Clerk at 920-648-5867 or by email at clerk@townoflakemills.wi.gov
